Seamless Integration: AI will become more seamlessly integrated into existing business systems and workflows. For instance, our use of AI Kiosks and conversational AI in banking has shown how AI can enhance customer service without disrupting existing processes. This integration will extend to other sectors, including healthcare, education, and retail, making AI a ubiquitous part of daily operations.

In the ever-evolving and never-ending landscape of business, staying ahead of the curve is a prerequisite for success. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has gone from being a futuristic concept to a daily business tool that executives can’t ignore. In this interview series, we would like to talk with business leaders who’ve successfully integrated A.I. into their operations, transforming their companies in the process. I had the pleasure of interviewing Eric Jang.

Eric Jang is the CEO of DeepBrain AI, a leading company at the forefront of advancing human-AI interaction. He holds a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Seoul National University and has a rich background in AI and financial technology. Previously, Eric served as the CEO of Page On and the CTO of Finger, a financial IT provider. Under his leadership, DeepBrain AI has become a globally recognized company in the AI industry, renowned for its innovative AI avatars and advanced AI solutions.

Thank you so much for doing this with us! To set the stage, tell us briefly about your childhood and background.

As a child, I always had a keen interest in science and technology. This passion for understanding how things work drove me to pursue a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Seoul National University. During my time at the university, I was actively involved in the venture club and eventually became its vice president. My curiosity for new technologies and my desire to explore their potential to solve real-world problems have always driven me.

What were the early challenges you faced in your career, and how did they shape your approach to leadership?

After my involvement with the venture club at Seoul National University, I embarked on three entrepreneurial ventures before founding DeepBrain AI. In the early stages of my career, navigating the rapid technological advancements in AI and integrating them into practical business solutions was a significant challenge. Securing investment and gaining trust in our AI solutions were also substantial hurdles.

These experiences taught me the importance of resilience and the need for continuous learning and adaptability. They emphasized the value of a user-centric approach, ensuring that our AI solutions are not only advanced but also practical and user-friendly. Building a strong, dedicated team has been crucial in navigating the complexities of AI development and commercialization. These early challenges shaped my approach to leadership by instilling the importance of innovation, persistence, and a focus on delivering real value to users.

We often learn the most from our mistakes. Can you share one mistake that turned out to be one of the most valuable lessons you’ve learned?

One significant mistake I made early on was focusing too much on the technical aspects of our solutions without considering the user experience. This oversight taught me the crucial lesson that technical innovation must be balanced with user needs. It highlighted the necessity of a holistic approach to product development, where usability and user satisfaction are given as much importance as technological advancements. Understanding these aspects pushed me to think about how humans interact with AI and inspired our company’s vision: AI for Human Life. This vision aims to humanize digital interactions and ensure that our AI technologies enhance everyday life by being intuitive, accessible, and beneficial to all users.

A.I. is a big leap for many businesses. When and what first sparked your interest in incorporating it into your operations?

The victory of AlphaGo over Lee Sedol in 2016 was a pivotal moment for me. It demonstrated the immense potential of AI beyond theoretical applications and highlighted its ability to solve complex problems. This inspired me to start MoneyBrain, which later became DeepBrain AI, with the goal of developing AI that could transform everyday interactions and business operations. We aimed to make these interactions more human-like and engaging, recognizing that AI had the power to revolutionize how we communicate and operate on a daily basis.

AI can be a game-changer for individuals and their responsibilities. Can you share how you personally use AI and what are your go-to resources or tools?

As our company specializes in AI Avatars, including AI Video Generators and Conversational AI Avatars, I frequently explore and utilize various technologies in the Generative AI industry. Our AI Avatar technology can take a script and deliver it as if the avatar is speaking it naturally. When ChatGPT was first released, we saw significant synergy. By integrating ChatGPT, we allowed our users to generate scripts by simply inputting prompts, significantly enhancing their experience.

Additionally, our Conversational AI Human, which integrates large language models (LLMs), offers an experience akin to talking with a real person. While traditional chatbots provided a sufficient conversational solution, they struggled to answer all types of queries comprehensively. However, our AI Human, integrated with various LLMs, can generate real-time, accurate responses, providing users with the precise information they need.

These tools have not only streamlined our internal processes but have also significantly enhanced the capabilities of our products, making them more efficient and user-friendly for our clients.

On the flip side, what challenges or setbacks have you encountered while implementing A.I. into your company?

Implementing AI has its challenges, particularly in terms of integration with existing systems and ensuring data privacy. Another significant challenge is maintaining the balance between automation and the human touch, which is crucial for customer-facing applications. We also faced initial resistance from stakeholders who were skeptical about the efficacy of AI solutions.

Moreover, our use of Generative AI technology to create new content initially led to confusion with deepfake technology. As the misuse of deepfake technology grew, we received many questions about the differences between our solutions and deepfakes. Our AI solutions are designed to be controlled and monitored, especially since our primary clientele consists of B2B customers and mid-sized businesses rather than individual users. This allows us to ensure the content generated is used responsibly.

We also make concerted efforts to guide our users in utilizing our solutions ethically and correctly. This involves a great deal of responsibility, but it is crucial for providing high-quality service. We continuously strive to improve our systems to help our users create beneficial and legitimate content while maintaining strict control over the information and speech generated by our AI.

These efforts are part of our commitment to responsible AI usage, ensuring that our technology enhances human interaction without compromising ethical standards.

Let’s dig into this further. Can you share the top 5 A.I. tools or different ways you’re integrating AI into your business? What specific functions do they serve and what kind of result have you seen so far? If you can, please share a story or example for each.

  1. ChatGPT & LLMs: As mentioned earlier, ChatGPT helps us provide customized scripts for our avatars. The continuous advancements in large language models (LLMs) expand the capabilities of our avatars, allowing them to perform a wider range of tasks. 5. AI Studios: Our flagship product, AI Studios, plays a crucial role in our operations. We use AI Studios to produce many of our marketing videos. The platform allows users to generate videos quickly and easily through various features such as Prompt to Video, PPT to Video, and URL to Video. Recently, we added Custom Avatar and Dream Avatar features, allowing users to create personalized avatars efficiently. Custom Avatars can be made from short video clips or webcam recordings, while Dream Avatars can be created from a single photo. These new features have received positive feedback, and we plan to continue enhancing them to provide even better user experiences.

These tools and integrations have significantly enhanced our product offerings, enabling us to deliver more robust and versatile solutions to our clients.

There’s concern about A.I. taking over jobs. How do you balance A.I. tools with your human workforce and have you already replaced any positions using technology?

AI can indeed transform many job roles, but the perception that it eliminates jobs entirely is often overstated and potentially misleading. While AI changes how industries operate, it also creates new opportunities and job roles. It’s crucial for humans to adapt and prepare for these changes with flexibility and resilience.

At DeepBrain AI, this is a common question we encounter, and our response is straightforward: our technology is designed to enhance job efficiency, not replace human roles. For example, our AI Kiosks, which incorporate our conversational AI solution AI Human, act as AI Bankers in bank branches. These AI Bankers serve as Lobby Leaders, answering customer queries and reducing wait times for clients. This allows human bankers to focus on more complex and value-added tasks.

The deployment of AI Bankers exemplifies how AI can support human employees rather than replace them. By handling repetitive and straightforward inquiries, AI Bankers enable human staff to engage in more productive and efficient work. This synergy between AI and human workers leads to improved overall service quality and operational efficiency.

In conclusion, while AI might change certain aspects of job roles, it does not necessarily replace them. Instead, it provides tools that help human workers be more effective and productive. At DeepBrain AI, we are committed to developing technologies that complement human abilities, allowing for a more efficient and innovative work environment.
